Eco-Friendly Showhome: Is Cardboard Furniture the Key?

Being a leading property developer in the South-West, we’re always striving to set a good example and reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. As we’ve mentioned before, we pride ourselves in using materials from sustainable sources and recycle whenever we can, but it never feels like quite enough—there must be more that we can do to reduce our impact? Well, we’ve had a great idea and we’d love to share it with you! We’re going for an eco-friendly showhome to showcase our current development.

Rather than furnish our showhome with brand-new furniture, we’ve decided to adopt a different approach. Instead, we’re going to be using cardboard furniture. Now, that might sound a little crazy, but we figured it would be best to sacrifice a little in the way of aesthetic appeal (as our homes are stunning enough as it is), in exchange for a more eco-friendly solution—after all, it’s still going to serve the same purpose, isn’t it?

What is the purpose of a showhome?

Simply put, the purpose of a showhome is to showcase the finished product, so that prospective buyers can come in and explore the property to get an idea as to what it would be like to live in it. But, why does the furniture have to be brand new and flashy? Isn’t the whole point of buying a new-build to furnish it however you want and add your own personal touch?

The most important thing of all, is to be able to get a feel for the property in terms of space, optimisation, and what you’ll be able to do with it when you move in—and that is exactly what we’ve gone for.

Lightweight and easy to shift about

Another reason why we decided to incorporate cardboard furniture into our showhome, is because we thought it might be fun for our guests to be able to shift things around themselves. As cardboard furniture is incredibly light-weight, it can be moved into different positions without being too strenuous or damaging the floors. This means that as a guest, you’ll be able to explore each room and experiment with different layouts.

In addition to that—as much of the furniture will be flat-packed—it will be easy to transport. So, rather than having to bring several trucks loaded to the brim with brand-new, bulky furniture, we’ll be able to furnish our showhome with a quick trip in the back of a van. Now, you might think: “what difference is an extra truck journey after spending months using heavy machinery to build the homes.”—It’s a good question, but our answer is simple: every little helps!

It’s impossible for every business to be completely green, especially when you’re in luxury property development. However, all that we can do is our very best to be conscious, and to innovate whenever possible, no matter how small or insignificant the changes might seem. And so, the eco-friendly showhome idea was born!

100% recycled

The cardboard furniture that we’re going to be using is 100% recycled! This means that we haven’t created any waste merely for display purposes. When the showhome and the rest of the properties are sold, the cardboard furniture will either go to a good home, or be recycled and re-purposed into something else. Perfect!
